The “Southern Safari” is the year’s largest fundraiser for New Covenant School.  Last year, the event raised nearly $20,000. This year’s Southern Safari will be held on Friday, February 24th at 6 p.m. at New Covenant School.

In this fifth year of the event, the theme of the Safari is “Tailgating with Perry Tuttle.”  Perry Tuttle was a wide receiver on the 1981 Clemson University National Championship football team. He went on to play professional football.  Perry Tuttle is now a noted author, speaker, coach, and chaplain of the Charlotte Bobcats, a professional basketball team.

When I asked Mr. Thames, what Perry Tuttle will add to the fundraiser, he said, ”Perry will not only bring a lively personality and vibrant spirit, but will also exemplify a loving Christian athlete who has kept the faith, even through college football and the NFL.  I am also excited to meet Perry Tuttle in person! I own a copy of that January 1982 issue of Sports Illustrated with Mr. Tuttle on the cover—the first collegiate athlete to be on a cover of Sports Illustrated.”

Tailgating with Perry Tuttle includes both live and silent auctions.  A wide variety of items are donated by local businesses and school families.  Some items that have already been donated are a 32.5 inch flat screen TV, a weekend beach trip to Pawley’s island in South Carolina, and gift certificates to many local restaurants and businesses.

The Southern Safari will bring true tailgating flavor!  There are several people catering the event, providing wings, barbeque, tailgating chips and dips, and maybe even sliders! All this great food is included in the ticket price.

Tickets are $25 per person or $300 for a table that seats eight.  If you are interested in attending this year’s Safari or would like to donate an item to this event, please call the school office at 864-224-5675.

Parents, teachers, staff, and students are working enthusiastically to make this year’s Southern Safari the most memorable yet!

Home Depot is the sponsor for this year’s Southern Safari.  “We hope The Home Depot can fulfill a sponsorship level that will bring in fantastic items people decide are really worth bidding on,” said Mr. Thames. All proceeds benefit NCS so invite folks to come!

If you want to blend in at this year’s Southern Safari, wear orange and white.  Tiger fan or not, all are welcome. We hope to see you tailgating this year with Perry Tuttle on February 24th!
